The Love of God

Pisces arrives as the last sign of the zodiac, closing the astrological year with a sense of fatigue. By now, we have moved through so many experiences: struggle and ease, sorrow and joy, loss and renewal. There is a longing for all of it to dissolve, and to return to a place that feels like home, where love is eternal and unconditional, and where we are accepted just as we are.

Pisces season brings the longing for unconditional love and peace. Aquarius opened the door into a spiritual world and showed that our life on earth might just be a part we play on the stage of a theatre, not the whole story; that there is something deeper behind what we see. Pisces makes us feel that this stage is like a prison we are stuck in for some reason, a harsh and often unfair place where everyone suffers in some way.

The suffering of the world is harder to avoid. The grief of strangers feels personal; the news of war and destruction weighs on us. Human existence, with its injustice and fragility, presses closer. Being human feels like a form of confinement.

What we realize is too much, too painful, too traumatizing for our minds to carry and process. We need a break. We need to escape the prison and merge with something big, beautiful, and free of suffering.

But we can’t. Our physical bodies firmly anchor us to earth and to physical existence, with all its limitations. So, we do what we can to bring the illusion of escape from the grim reality we are tired of dealing with.

Some do it through art. Pisces is often linked to creativity, not as beautification or entertainment, but as a path to something deeper. Music, poetry, painting, and film can open a space inside us that connects us to God through a language more powerful than words. Through art, we reach toward the sacred.

There are other ways people try to ease the ache of earthly existence, especially when longing to escape grows too strong. Some seek brief moments of relief through substances or distractions, hoping to touch a sense of bliss. Yet these attempts often fall short of the deeper peace the soul seeks.

Pisces stands at the edge between surrender and escape. Sometimes we find ourselves moving between these two, searching for what will bring us closer to peace.

Surrender can come through quiet spiritual practice or by offering care to those who are most vulnerable—whether in a hospital, a shelter, or simply by being present for someone in need. Escape, on the other hand, is just that: a turning away that rarely brings the healing we hope for.

At different times in life, we may change direction, since our journey is never simple, but full of twists and turns. Making art or meditating can help us escape, while things like using psychedelics can sometimes lead to new insights. People often do both. Spiritual experiences are often unclear and hard to describe—mysterious, as Pisces is known for.

Pisces are ruled by Neptune, a planet often called the “higher octave of Venus” because it takes love beyond the personal and makes it universal. Where Venus loves by connecting, Neptune loves by letting go of the self and all its labels. It opens the heart so much that everything deserves love through compassion: an elderly person with a cane slowly crossing the street, a wounded animal, a tree holding its ground in the wind.

During Pisces season, the boundary between self and the rest of the world blurs. Compassion rises without effort. Tears come without explanation. A piece of music, a moment of prayer, a sight of someone in pain — any of these can open the heart completely. When we cry, we are crying not only for ourselves, but for the whole world. For all beings who suffer.

This is compassion in its purest form—the understanding that life is fragile everywhere. The loneliness of strangers, forests being destroyed, quiet sadness behind everyday faces, the forgotten, the displaced, the sick, the poor—we feel their suffering like our own and want to help.

Prayer becomes easier in this season. Even those who do not pray find themselves speaking silently to something beyond the visible world. Asking for help. For themselves. For others. For the world.

The longing for God, the need to be protected by God from the cruelty we witness, and the need to believe that suffering is not the final word become pressing.

A piece of music dissolves the walls around the heart.

A walk in nature makes everything feel alive.

A breath connects to the whole world.

In that dissolution of boundaries, in that merge, love appears. Not romantic love, not personal love, but the love that moves through existence itself. The love that makes someone stop for an injured animal. The love that feeds the hungry. The love that prays for the world that is hurting.

This is the love of God Pisces seeks and represents.

This is the love that belongs to no one, moves through everything, dissolves separation, and feels like God’s presence we long for.
